19b - Requirements for Workshops

Repairs, maintenance, modifications, reconstruction, and superstructure work on motor vehicles and trailers for motor vehicles may only be carried out by approved businesses. The same applies to the installation, inspection, and repair of tachographs. To receive approval for the installation, inspection, and repair of tachographs, the responsible manager of the business must provide a regular police certificate to show that the person is qualified for the task.

The Ministry may, by regulation, establish rules regarding the approval of workshops that are to install, inspect, and repair safety or environmental devices in vehicles.

The Ministry may, by regulation, establish rules concerning the conditions and transition arrangements for approval of businesses mentioned in the first and second paragraphs, the approval of the business leader, and supervision of such businesses. The Ministry may also issue regulations concerning the approval and supervision authorities, the obligation to assist the supervisory authorities, and fees for approval and supervision. The Ministry may issue regulations regarding orders for corrections, warnings, revocation of approval, cessation of operations, and penalties for non-compliance.

The Ministry may, by regulation, grant exceptions to the requirement for approval for certain types of vehicles, certain types of work, and specific businesses and individuals under specified conditions.
